Banks’ Maximum Liability for Dishonored Checks Increased to TRY 3,600
According to the communiqué published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye in the Official Gazette dated January 22, 2022 (No. 31727), the maximum amount banks are required to pay for dishonored checks has been increased.
Effective January 28, 2022, the upper liability limit per check has been raised from TRY 2,670 to TRY 3,600.
For check leaves printed before Communiqué No. 2010/2, the maximum payable amount remains TRY 3,000 per check.
This amendment aims to enhance payment security, strengthen the protection of check holders, and support financial system stability.
